New research paths soon transformed the Prelude Network IDS (NIDS) into a Hybrid IDS. At the same time, across the Atlantic another Open Source NIDS was born: the now famous Snort .ĭeveloping good software takes a lot of time, and technologies evolve very fast. It was in 1998 and at that time, the goal of the project was to create a modular network intrusion detection tool. Once upon a time in a far far galaxy, the Prelude project began. ![]() The aim of this article is to give an overview of the project, describing its natural behaviors and the advantages of having a Total IDS Solution running on a sensible network. It has been designed from the ground up to be optimized for distributed environments, completely modular, robust, and fast. Prelude is developed primarily under GNU/Linux, but also supports the *BSD, as well as any POSIX compliant platform. ![]() Prelude is a full featured Intrusion Detection System distributed under the GPL License. ![]() This article is old, and part of it are deprecated, please look at the Prelude Handbook Prelude: an Open Source, Hybrid Intrusion Detection System New prelude sensor: auditd New prelude sensor: Ossec Prelude on Fedora IDMEF draft released as RFC 4765 Prelude on OpenBSD Prelude Correlation!
